PRESIDENTS REPORT for 5th JULY and 2nd AUGUST GENERAL MEETINGS 2012.

Once again our Annual Stamp Fair is fast approaching (Sunday 4th November) and we will all be busy with its organization and preparation. We are expecting a larger year than last year with the other clubs, the public, dealers and the auction.

Again many thanks to Archie Gerzee for his donation in doing the two 3Ds for our raffles, ANZAC – Raising Sun Badges overprints of the Miniature Sheet and the Gutter Strip. Both are the No.100 of the overprints and are two separate raffles.

In July and August Margaret and I have taken the books to Sherwood, CCQ, Southport, Lockyer Valley, (club visit and annual fair) Wynnum taking the club books on Saturday of the Qld. State Exhibition, and Caloundra. I also attended meetings at Queensland Philatelic Society as a club member and Queensland Philatelic Council as a delegate representing our club. It is always great to catch up with other clubs and their members and exchange information and ideas.

This year representing our club, helped at, and attended the Queensland State Exhibition and found it very interesting in many ways. It never ceases to amaze me the material that is exhibited at the exhibition (and the clubs), and I find it interesting were the material is found and how people obtain it. It was a bit disappointing that more clubs or club members hadn’t attended the exhibition.

Stamp collecting has changed in many ways but it is still the biggest and most enjoyable hobby in the world today, with world stamps still very much sort after. As the hobby changes, collectors and clubs like ours must change with it. We need to get back to the basic principles of the hobby and involve the younger generation and the wider community within our communities.

I would like to thank all members, our committee, community members and many of our city councillors for their help and support to our club, which is most appreciated.

HAPPY COLLECTING
David Roberts
President.

Fair Overprint Stamps

The Rising Sun Stamp will be our overprint for the stamp fair in November. We also have these made into a 3D picture to raffle off on the day.

PRESIDENTS REPORT for 3rd May and 7th June GENERAL MEETING 2012.

The commencement of the 2012 year started of with our first ever Stamp Workshop in January in conjunction with Ipswich City Library and the Ipswich City Council with their school holiday program for school children. The stamp workshop was a great success and most enjoyable for all attending. Many thanks to David Walker, George Bould, Mary Ware and the library staff for their support. Together with the clubs juniors, the workshop has added another four juniors and three senior members to our clubs and after 38 years of our clubs existence we now have an Ipswich Junior Stamp Club.

The work we have all been doing for the last couple of years and as a team is just starting to work for the club. The club has a great future and some exciting times ahead and we will need people from time to time to stand up to fill in and take on some small jobs as needed. The existence of the junior club alone is an example of what we can achieve working together.

Our Stamp Super Margaret and myself so far this year have travelled to Nanango, Logan, Sunshine Coast, Twin Towns and Northside while Brendon and I took our club books to Bundaberg, also I have been attending monthly meetings as our club delegate to Queensland Philatelic Council at Wynnum.

Ruth and I are receiving on average two or more phone calls and emails from community members requesting help with their collections and or asking about our club, with emphases on the junior club. I would also at this time, like to thank the many community members for their generous donations of philatelic material to the juniors and our club in general, this is very much appreciated.

Stamp collecting today has changed in many ways but it is still the biggest and most enjoyable hobby in the world today with world stamps still very much sort after. As the hobby changes collectors and clubs like ourselves must change with it. We need to get back to the basic principles, the principles that has made a great hobby what it is today.

Our clubs Annual General Meeting is just around the corner (7 June) and members must be financial to vote or to be nominated for positions so check with treasure Dave if your not sure. Nomination forms will be available at our May meeting.

I would like to thank all members, our committee, community members and many of our city councillors for their help and support to our club.

    Happy collecting
    David Roberts
